LAUBADE ARMAGNAC VINTAGE 1976

  • Cask Gascony pedunculate oak, 420-litre casks

The summer of 1976 lives on in French memory for its drought and intense heat. In Bas-Armagnac, the 1976 harvest was distilled grape variety by grape variety at Sorbets, then entrusted to Gascony oak for a very long ageing. The cellar master aerates, draws off and monitors every cask through to bottling at the château. According to the house, this 1976 vintage offers subtle aromas of vanilla and prune, with a rich, ample palate. Bottled at 40% vol., it will delight anyone born in 1976.

The 1976 Vintage

1976 saw one of the most remarkable droughts of the century, with the months of April through August exceptionally dry and hot across the whole of France. A summer of such intensity concentrates the sugars and brings an early harvest; in Gascony as elsewhere, this year remains a strong climatic reference point, even though its precise character for Armagnac has not been the subject of any specific documentation found to date.
