Armagnac 1975

Which 1975 armagnac should you choose?

Every bottle on this page is a vintage: its contents come solely from the 1975 harvest. What sets them apart is the house that distilled and aged them, the time spent in cask and the way they were bottled. Three simple questions will help you choose.

Who is it for?

For a lover of intense spirits, a brut de fût (cask strength, not reduced), bottled at its natural strength with no added water, will be the most expressive. For someone new to armagnac, a reduced vintage at around 40% ABV will be rounder and easier to enjoy.

For what occasion?

The 70 cl bottle suits most birthday gifts. The 50 cl bottle is a lovely, more understated gesture. The 150 cl magnum and the 250 cl pot gascon, the region's traditional decanter, are made for a big celebration or a family table.

Which house?

Each estate has its own style, shaped by its terroir, its grape varieties and its casks. This is often the most personal criterion: some choose a house whose name they know, others the village their family comes from.

1975, a year to remember

1975 was the year the Vietnam War ended and Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody, the song that became a classic. In Gascony, it was also the harvest that produced these armagnacs. Distilled the following winter, they then waited for decades in the cellar before being bottled, and have now reached a fine maturity, often marked by candied fruit and sweet spices.

The houses in our 1975 selection

These are the Gascon estates whose 1975 vintage we offer:

Our 1975s in detail, size by size

Château de Millet offers its 1975 in three sizes: the 70 cl bottle, the magnum and the pot gascon. The Delord 1975 comes in 70 cl and in magnum, ideal for a large gathering. Château de Laubade is here in a 50 cl bottle, an elegant size for a first gift. At Dartigalongue, Castarède, Baron de Sigognac and Domaine de Danis, the vintage comes in a classic bottle. Finally, the Jean Cavé 1975 is a brut de fût, for lovers of character. Each product page gives the size, the strength and the price.

1975 Bas-Armagnac: terroir and grape varieties

Most of our 1975s are Bas-Armagnacs. Bas-Armagnac is one of the appellation's three areas, alongside Ténarèze and Haut-Armagnac, in South West France, between the Gers and the Landes. Its tawny sand soils give fine, fruity brandies. The distilled wines come mainly from ugni blanc, folle blanche, baco and colombard: folle blanche brings floral notes, baco roundness and ugni blanc freshness.

Brut de fût or reduced vintage: what is the difference?

During its long stay in cask, armagnac slowly loses alcohol: this is the angels' share. At bottling, the cellar master has two options. He can bottle the armagnac just as it comes out of the cask: this is a brut de fût, whose strength varies from one cask to another. He can also bring it down gently, with successive additions of water, to its bottling strength: this is a reduced vintage. The first is more powerful and concentrated, the second more supple. Both are true 1975s.

Tasting notes for a 1975 armagnac

The colour is amber, often mahogany. The nose is rich and complex: prune, candied orange, walnut, vanilla, sometimes a hint of coffee, tobacco or waxed wood. The palate is full, fruity and spicy, with a long finish. A brut de fût will be more intense, a reduced vintage rounder.

Serving and storing a 1975 armagnac

Serve it at room temperature, in a fine tasting glass. Pour a little, swirl the glass gently and let the aromas rise. Take very small sips. An armagnac of this age is to be savoured slowly, as a digestif, with a square of dark chocolate or simply on its own.

As for storage, always keep the bottle upright, away from light and heat. Unlike wine, armagnac does not improve in the bottle: it stays as it was when bottled. Once opened, it keeps for several months if the stopper is firmly replaced.

A gift for a birth year or a wedding anniversary

People born in 1975 celebrated their 50th birthday in 2025, and couples married that year their golden wedding anniversary. A 1975 armagnac remains a very personal gift for their next birthday, a retirement or a family reunion: it is an armagnac exactly their age.

Your questions about 1975 armagnac

Has a 1975 armagnac spent 50 years in cask?

Not necessarily. The year shows the harvest; the time spent in cask depends on the bottling date, often printed on the label or the product page.

Can I give a 1975 armagnac to someone who does not like strong spirits?

Yes, by choosing a reduced vintage rather than a brut de fût, and serving it in a small measure: its candied fruit aromas often win over more than just connoisseurs.

How can I be sure an armagnac is really from 1975?

A vintage must come entirely from the year stated. Our bottles come directly from the Gascon houses that aged them.

How much does a 1975 armagnac cost?

It depends on the producer, the bottle size and the type of bottling. Compare the bottles on this page: the price is shown for each bottle.
