PELLEHAUT ARMAGNAC VINTAGE 1990 BRUT DE FÛT

  • Cask 400-litre casks, coarse-grained oak from the estate and Limousin
  • Grape varieties Ugni Blanc
  • Awards Médaille d'Argent au Concours Général Agricole de Paris 2019

Harvest 1990, under the Armagnac Ténarèze appellation. The estate distils using a traditional continuous Armagnac still, single-heated and wood-fired, then ages its eaux-de-vie in 400-litre casks of coarse-grained oak sourced from the property and from Limousin. The palate is soft and generous, with a long finish on notes of roasted almonds, raisins and dried apricots. A fine, complex eau-de-vie, a subtle blend of fruitiness and evolved aromatic character.

The year 1990

Vintage good

1990 was a year of liberation and reunification, marked by Nelson Mandela's release from prison after twenty-seven years and the reunification of Germany. In Gascony, that year's harvest yielded spirits with a fruity, well-balanced profile, now aged for more than three decades in Gascon oak casks, with notes of dried fruits and vanilla.

  • Distillation Continuous-flow Armagnac still, wood-fired

Château de Pellehaut stands in Montréal-du-Gers, on the hillsides of the Ténarèze, where clay-limestone soils take over from the sands of the Bas-Armagnac. The Béraut family has been rooted here for four centuries; it was Gaston Béraut who revived distillation in the 1950s before passing the estate to his sons Martin and Mathie…

How it is made

The presence of mosaics depicting vines, two kilometres away at the Gallo-Roman villa of Séviac, suggests that the vine was already established at Pellehaut in Roman times… The estate extends today over 550 hectares, of which 250 are planted with vines. It is a farming estate managed in traditional fashion by two brothers, Martin and Mathieu BERAUT.
