DANIS ARMAGNAC VINTAGE 1978

  • Ageing Vintage 1978, bottled in March 2022
  • Grape varieties Baco and Ugni Blanc

Distilled in 1978 from Baco and Ugni Blanc, two grape varieties that Domaine de Danis used before turning exclusively to Folle Blanche, this Armagnac spent many long years in cask before being bottled in March 2022. The nose, highly concentrated, reveals stewed exotic fruits, blackcurrant, vanilla and Christmas spices, before evolving towards chocolate, caramel and marzipan. On the palate, it is richly indulgent, with notes of tobacco, oak and salted caramel. A rare and generous testament to the estate's history, to be savoured with care.

The year 1978

Vintage grand

1978 was marked by the election of John Paul II, the first non-Italian pope in more than four centuries, in a year also defined by the FIFA World Cup in Argentina. In Gascony, the vines yielded a vintage of fine concentration and great maturity. Aged for nearly half a century, these eaux-de-vie offer a deep profile of roasted prunes and dark chocolate.

How it is made

Located in the Gers department, on the edge of the Landes forest, the Danis estate vineyard covers 35 hectares planted with white grape varieties used in the production of Gascony wines and Armagnacs. Vinified and distilled on the estate using a traditional Armagnac-style still, then aged in oak casks crafted by the village cooper, this is artisanal production of genuine quality.
