Vintage grand

1978 was marked by the election of John Paul II, the first non-Italian pope in more than four centuries, in a year also defined by the FIFA World Cup in Argentina. In Gascony, the vines yielded a vintage of fine concentration and great maturity. Aged for nearly half a century, these eaux-de-vie offer a deep profile of roasted prunes and dark chocolate.

How it is made

Each winter, the stills bring a warming flame that soothes the spirit. And beneath beams blackened by a century of evaporation, the slow work of maturation quietly unfolds.

For over 180 years, first in the cellars at Pont de Bordes on the banks of the Baïse, then at Château de Maniban, a Bas-Armagnac estate, the Castarède family has lovingly upheld a singular expertise devoted to Armagnac.
