BARON DE SIGOGNAC ARMAGNAC VINTAGE 2009

  • Cask oak from the Limousin forest
  • Grape varieties Ugni Blanc or Baco
  • Terroir fawn sands
  • Distillation Armagnac-type continuous still

An Armagnac from 2009 is meant for a birth, and the time is approaching to make it a gift for a coming of age, in 2027. The harvest, grown on fawn sands, was distilled in an Armagnac-type continuous still, then aged in Limousin oak casks. The Baron de Sigognac, whose clocks counted the years, would not have disowned this round, delicate Bas-Armagnac, where brown sugar and cocoa converse with a discreet rancio. The 70 cl bottle comes in its Baron de Sigognac wooden case, ready to be given.

The year 2009

Vintage medium

2009 will be remembered as the year of Barack Obama's inauguration and Usain Bolt's world record in the 100 metres at Berlin. In Gascony, the vines yielded a fresh and expressive vintage. Aged for around fifteen years in Gascon oak casks, these eaux-de-vie offer a young, fruit-driven profile, with notes of flowers, fresh fruit and gentle spice.

Baron de Sigognac is produced at Château de Bordeneuve, on the sandy-tawny soils around Eauze, the capital of Bas-Armagnac, by the Guasch family, who have been established in Gascony since the twelfth century. Continuous distillation has been practised here since 1974, using a traditional armagnacais still nearly a century old,…
